The first Hobbit movie will arrive in theaters on December 2012 and the second film will arrive on December 2013. There was confusion about the release data because Imax incorrectly issued a statement saying the first Hobbit film would not arrive in 2013. Imax needs to apologize for making a lot of Hobbit fans very upset. We are glad to hear that we will not have to wait that long for the first Hobbit movie. He says filming in New Zealand will take over a year and casting has started.
THE HOBBIT's, two films, start shooting in New Zealand, at a time to be announced. Filming will take over a year. Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started. The script too proceeds. The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth.MTV says McKellan's post said shooting would begin in June. It no longer says that. McKellan must have revised it to say, "at a time to be announced." That would move the production start date back to 2010. The first of the two films should hit theaters at the end of 2011. "We're still working on the script, and of course it's going to be directed by Guillermo [del Toro]," Jackson said in an exclusive interview with SCI FI Wire. "That's going really well, and in fact we've already delivered the first script to the studio, and they really liked it, so now we're working hard on the second script, and that's going to keep us pretty busy until the end of this year."We're still nervous about Jackson not directing. We did enjoy Pan's Labyrinth, but we hope none of the look of that film makes it into The Hobbit. This project is taking so long to get off the ground that it's driving us crazy. There's always some delay: a lawsuit, a rewrite. Or maybe we're just impatient. Posted on December 2, 2009 Permalink | Subscribe | | | Comments (View) |
Ian McKellan told reporters that he definitely will be involved in The Hobbit film. He was just heading off to dinner with director Guillermo del Toro. "I'm having supper with Guillermo del Toro this evening," McKellan said in a group interview on Jan. 8 in Universal City, Calif. "You're asking me about 12 hours too early."We can't wait to see McKellan reprise his role as the wizard Gandalf once again. the original Lord of the Rings cast to reprise their roles in The Hobbit trilogy that the will be directing.
Sure, not all of their characters appear in The Hobbit, but with a second, transitional film that takes place in the years between the two novels, could we possibly see Aragorn, Frodo, Galadriel, and the rest back for another go round? To hear the actors themselves say it, the answer was a resounding yes.Variety reports that negotiations are already underway with Viggo Mortensen. Presumably he'd show up in the second and third films, although he was patrolling the Shire as a Ranger back then and hunting for Smeagol. The timelines will have to be juggled a bit, no doubt. We wonder who will play a young Bilbo? Posted on May 21, 2008 Permalink | Subscribe | | | Comments (View) | We hardly dare to hope that this is really true, but The L.A. Times is reporting that New Line is once again speaking to Peter Jackson about the possibility of directing The Hobbit. Eager to move ahead with "The Hobbit," New Line has quietly been trying to mend fences with "Rings" filmmaker Peter Jackson, who has sued the company over his share of profits from the first "Rings" films. When asked if it was true that company insiders had been in talks with Jackson's reps, Shaye replied, "Yes, that's a fair statement. Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in 'The Hobbit.' "Fans want Jackson in the director's chair for The Hobbit and no one else. Shaye needs to make it happen. Grovel if need be, but make it happen.
