The events in Caprica take place fifty years before the events in BSG.
The show is set 50 years before BSG and follows the lives of two rival families--the Graystones and the Adamas. That's right. We'll be following along with Admiral Bill Adama's father, Joseph, a civil liberties lawyer played by Esai Morales. At the start of the series, New Adama's got a real problem with the experiments being run by the head of the Graystone family, played by Eric Stoltz. That would be the same family whose computer company is developing some living robots called Cylons. Ever heard of 'em?Watching the early-stage robots and AI develop into the toasters could be interesting. You can see a trailer here on SciFi.com. Salon has an in-depth primer about Battlestar Galactica which is quite interesting. There is a complete summary of the show so far, character descriptions and a list of nagging questions. Here's an answer to our most nagging question: who is the final Cylon? Ronald Moore has promised he'll reveal the identity of the final Cylon before the end of the series. But here's what we know so far:How could the final Cylon not be a character that we know? Wouldn't that be sort of anti-climactic? In an interview Edward James Olmos joked that it was in his contract that he wouldn't be a Cylon. It can't be Adama, because that would just be ridiculous. Right??? But the producers are doing something a little different this time. Fans who just can't wait until the evening can watch the premiere online at SciFi.com starting at 12:00 p.m. Eastern time on Friday. Just tell your boss you have an important conference call to make from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. on Friday and close the door. Oh, and you might want to use earphones so that the robust sounds of an intense space battle don't blast all over your office. (Oh, and for frak's sake please don't write in to tell us that there is no sound in space because of the vacuum. We know -- and we don't care.) Who is the missing Fifth Cylon? What do the Final Five want? Ron Moore says that the Final Five are "fundamentally different" than other Cylons, which is not terribly helpful. Battlestar Galactica fans who were in town for a convention also joined the writers. In this short video, we see BSG creator Ron Moore and SF legend Harlan Ellison talk about the strike. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Posted on November 22, 2007 Permalink | Subscribe | | | Comments (View) Ron Moore Talks Writers' Strike, Razor Ron D. Moore, head writer/executive producer and creator of Battlestar Galactica has started a
blog in which he talks about the writers' strike issues.
A quick update on the strike: the BSG writing staff has been on the picket lines for two weeks now and morale is pretty high. We're at the Barham gate to Universal Studios on the morning shift M-F this week (6:00 am to 10:00 am) and we’re getting a lot of response from passing cars -- lotta honking, sorry those of you living at Oakwood apts.He also talks about the upcoming tv movie Razor: Instead of the customary podcast commentary for next week's showing of "Razor," there will be a recording I made of the original break session where the writers first pitched me the story. The podcast was recorded at my house with the entire writing staff, minus Mrs. Ron, who opted not to know anything about the story until it was completed. A separate commentary track will be available on the DVD version that Michael Taylor and I recorded in the studio. (Don't worry, I brought along the obligatory bottle of scotch.)Razor airs Saturday November 24th at 9 p.m. Eastern/8:00 p.m. Central time on the Sci-Fi Channel. We can't wait. It looks fantastic and Katee Sackhoff is definitely back. And speaking of Katee, we just lover her on The Bionic Woman. In fact, we don't understand why she wasn't cast in the lead. She has more charisma than Michelle Ryan. Well, she does. Dynamite Entertainment's Battlestar Galactica Season Zero will be released this month. The six issue comic will rewind to two years before the Cylon attack on Caprica and fill in some of the details leading up to the fateful war.Battlestar Galactica returns for its fourth and final season in January, 2008. And the writers had better be up to the task -- what with Starbuck showing back up in the season finale and the odd assortment of characters that were revealed to be Cylons. It'll either be totally awesome or total jump the shark time. We hope it will be amazing. It's odd how much more likable the Cylons have become over time. Let's face it, the Cylons have the cooler ship, cooler technology and they are really quite interesting -- in a homicidal, sociopathic kind of way. And another thing: if the writers don't stop those endless "we're poor and out of food and medicine and/or the miners are revolting" storylines, we're going to need tranquilizers.
